Microsoft Open-Sources Mage-VL-Cowork, a 4B Computer-Use Agent That Chooses Between Clicking the GUI and Running Bash, Scoring 66.0% on OSWorld-Verified
On October 30, Microsoft's Mage team released Mage-VL-Cowork on Hugging Face under Apache-2.0: a 4B multimodal computer-use agent in which a single model decides at every step whether to act through screenshots and GUI clicks (computer_use) or through bash and Python in a terminal, with no external orchestrator. Microsoft reports a two-run average of 66.0% on OSWorld-Verified (361 tasks, 50-step budget), above Qwen3.6-27B at 63.9% but below the 9B SCALECUA-Qwen3.5-9B at 68.7%.

Symantec finds a grey-market relay that installs the real Codex and Claude Code CLIs, then turns off sandboxing and routes every request through its own servers
On Oct 29 Symantec's Threat Hunter Team disclosed an unauthorized AI relay seen at about a dozen organizations since early 2026, mostly in mainland China. Users install the genuine Codex or Claude Code CLI via npm, then run a one-line script from the reseller that rewrites ~/.codex/config.toml or ~/.claude/settings.json, points base_url at relay domains, swaps in relay-issued keys, sets the sandbox to danger-full-access and disables telemetry. Symantec says this is not a CLI vulnerability and it has seen no abuse so far.

NVIDIA launches OpenShell Reference Architecture at GTC Berlin: Vera Rubin, Vera CPUs and BlueField-4 Sentry for hardware-enforced safe AI agents
At GTC Berlin on Oct 21, NVIDIA announced the OpenShell Reference Architecture: building on the open-source OpenShell secure runtime, it pairs Vera Rubin for inference, Vera CPUs for agent harnesses, and BlueField-4 DPUs running NVIDIA Sentry for in-silicon policy enforcement, so enterprises can build, contain, observe and govern agents on-prem and at the edge. NVIDIA says it is available now; partners named include Anthropic, OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft and ServiceNow. The software is Apache 2.0.
