Walmart opens up to AI shopping agents: an MCP-based Agent Gateway enters developer beta, and Agent Profiles with spending limits such as $50, $100 or $200 arrive next month
On October 21 Walmart announced Agent Profiles, the Walmart Agent Gateway and terms for AI agents. The Gateway lets agents search and buy across Walmart and Sam's Club over MCP, starting with a beta for companies and developers. Agent Profiles, due next month, let shoppers authorize each agent separately, see its orders apart from their own, set a spending limit or approve every purchase, and revoke access at any time. Agents never receive payment-card data and are blocked if they break the terms. TechCrunch reports Amazon is moving the other way and blocking third-party shopping agents.

Ruby on Rails creator and 37signals CTO DHH (David Heinemeier Hansson) posted two related takes on X on November 2. First: "The great gift of agents is how they allow you to route around every insufferable gatekeeper in software." Then: the age of agents will be amazing for most programmers but hard on the cantankerous ones, because specialized knowledge and rare skills will no longer offer immunity to people who are a pain to work with, so they should learn basic people skills. The second post drew about 3,600 likes, 106K views and 280+ replies in roughly four hours. This is a personal opinion, not an announcement from any company.

GitHub Changelog (@GHchangelog) announced Copilot for JetBrains 1.18.0: public-preview AI-assisted tool approvals auto-approve low-risk calls; organization and enterprise shared skills/instructions; and plan mode for the Codex agent so you can review a plan before implementation. You can also re-edit earlier messages (rewinding chat and file edits) and chat alongside sessions.
